Benoît Moritz visits Muntpunt with urban.brussels
As part of Brussels Architecture Today - 50 interviews, 50 ways to discover the new architectural scene in Brussels - urban.brussels teamed up with Benoît Moritz, architect-urban planner at the agentschap MSA, teacher at the ULB architecture faculty and member of the "Académie Royale de Belgique", for a visit to the Brussels city center. There, Benoît chose to present the Muntpunt project, where three existing buildings were renovated and merged into one in order to accommodate a library. B-architecten was responsible for its design in 2013.
In an accompanying interview, Benoît Moritz says about Muntpunt:
"Le sociologue E.Klinenberg a récemment publié un ouvrage intitulé “Palaces for the People: How Social Infrastructure Can Help Fight Inequality, Polarization, and the Decline of Civic Life”. Cet ouvrage, écrit dans le cadre du contexte nord américain, rappelle le fait que les équipements publics, qui a nos yeux d’européens font partie du paysage de nos villes, sont des outils exceptionnels de lutte de contre l’exclusion sociale, et participe également de l’émancipation culturelle et sociale des habitants. Le projet MUNTPUNT me semble à cet égard intéressant à mettre en avant parce qu’il est une illustration de l’importance de disposer de tels types d’équipements à Bruxelles."
