Go! Campus Sint-Pieters-Woluwe
Education
A compact, versatile campus bringing together kindergarten, primary, secondary, and adult education. Within the same Scholen van Vlaanderen competition framework, our design for the GO! Campus in Sint-Niklaas was also selected as a winning proposal.
The campus occupies a quiet, green site on the outskirts of Brussels. Our design responds to the existing parkland and the scattered, low-density buildings from the 1960s. The result is a clear, layered campus where education, landscape, and public functions coexist.
New buildings are arranged around a central square that organises arrival, circulation, and social interaction. This space serves staff, students, and external users while remaining open to the surrounding park. Public functions line the square: the sports hall, the atrium of the kindergarten and primary schools (Klim Op and De Zonnewijzer), the reception, the canteen, and the Centre for Adult Education (CVO), as well as the arena of the secondary school (MAW). One side of the square opens to the landscape, reinforcing the campus’s green character.
The different educational institutions are organised into distinct clusters. MAW occupies the existing main building, preserving its concrete frame, with a southward extension that respects the logic of the original structure. The arena forms the building’s heart: a double-height space for learning, debate, and social interaction, with visual connections to polyvalent spaces and the outdoors.
Kindergarten, primary school, and administrative functions are grouped in a compact two-storey building organised around a light-filled atrium. The roofscape provides a third layer for learning and play, with shaded and green areas. The canteen and CVO occupy a separate volume with a flexible column-and-beam structure. The CVO sits on the first floor and functions fully autonomously.
Outdoor areas are carefully designed to combine play, learning, and relaxation. In addition to mature trees and green zones, the campus offers outdoor classrooms, a play area, a small urban farm, vegetable gardens, and sports fields. Natural materials, subtle level changes, and multifunctional elements create a rich, inviting landscape that encourages social interaction.
Traffic flows are clearly separated: vehicles are concentrated at the site’s edge, while the central Connector is reserved for pedestrians and cyclists. This creates a safe, legible, and active campus firmly embedded in its community.
GO! Campus Sint-Pieters-Woluwe is more than a school: it is a green, flexible, and inclusive learning environment where education, landscape, and community come together.
