Large-scale modular housing project as part of the master plan New Hemiksem.
B-architecten won the mini-competition for 19 modular houses and 18 flats in Hemiksem together with the modular home builder Skilpod. The competition was organized as part of the four-year framework contract ‘Modular Housing’ of the Flemish Government.
Our project ‘Living around square and garden' will set in motion the execution of the master plan New Hemiksem. It responds to the need to renew an incoherent neighbourhood which grew out the fragmented development of dead-end streets, scattered buildings and private gardens. Our vision for the neighbourhood is centred on greening and soil decompactation. The current individual homes with spacious private gardens make way for clustered modular housing with an alternation of single and multi-family homes around squares and gardens.
