Regatta District 6 is one of the final new residential areas within the broader Regatta development on Antwerp’s Left Bank, set in the green landscape surrounding the Galgenweel. The district is conceived as a compact urban block of approximately 100 by 100 metres, combining apartment buildings and family homes to form a calm and clearly structured living environment.

The project comprises five apartment buildings and 43 family houses, arranged around a central circulation structure. A collective underground car park serves the entire block and provides space for both cars and bicycles; in addition, each house is equipped with its own garden and bicycle storage.

The volumes range from two to four storeys and accommodate a mix of dwelling types: studios and one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments, complemented by houses with two or three bedrooms. The strategically positioned apartment buildings anchor key access and sight lines within the green inner area and emphasise the corners of the district. The houses are grouped into recognisable clusters, enclosed by garden walls that define the (semi-)private outdoor spaces while reinforcing the spatial legibility of the neighbourhood.

The architecture is characterised by clear volumetry and refined material expression. Light brickwork forms the basis, complemented by concrete elements and subtle colour accents. Both the apartment buildings and houses play with recessed and projecting elements: cantilevered terraces on the first and second floors, recessed terraces for the penthouses, deep-set entrance zones, and a slightly projected plinth functioning as a planter or bench — creating a gentle transition between public space and private terraces.

Particular attention is given to the plinth: coloured entrance niches, generous window openings and visual connections through garden walls ensure liveliness at street level without compromising residents’ privacy. Two main axes structure the district and intersect at the central courtyard, while secondary semi-public paths provide access to the houses’ gardens and strengthen the clarity of the layout.

With this cohesive design, Regatta District 6 forms a calm, green and well-functioning residential neighbourhood, where typological diversity, architectural clarity and carefully designed outdoor spaces go hand in hand.
